Our Travel Philosophy: Explore More. Take Less.
There are different ways to travel.
You can go fast, go cheap, go big, leave a footprint the size of a mountain and move on to the next trip.
Or you can go intentionally
Run trails. Eat plants.
Support people doing meaningful work.
Protect places you love.
Pick up the litter you didn’t drop.
Plant a tree when you leave.
Trails & Roots chooses the second way. Every time.
We genuinely believe that the best adventures are the ones that give something back: to the places, to the people, and to you.

We are a proud member of 1% for the Planet! This means that we donate at least 1% of our annual sales (not profits!) to support environmental organisations focused on doing good for the planet.
1% for the Planet is a global organisation that exists to ensure our planet and future generations thrive. They act as an accountability partner for businesses supporting certified environmental partners through annual membership.
In 2024, we donated to the Irish Peatland Conservation Council! The non-profit works to conserve bogs in Ireland and protect the wildlife found within, buying and protecting key peatlands across the country and raising awareness about their ecological importance. Learn more about peatlands, why we want to protect them and the work of the IPCC here>>>
In 2025, we donated to BirdWatch Ireland and CREA Mont Blanc! Ireland’s largest independent conservation group, BirdWatch Ireland protects wild birds and their habitats. With over 450 bird species across the country, they play a crucial role in keeping Ireland’s ecosystems healthy. Based in Chamonix, France, CREA Mont-Blanc blends scientific research with fieldwork to study alpine ecosystems, from forests to glaciers. Their mission bridges the gap between scientists and the public, making mountain science accessible to all.
In 2026, we donated to Síolta Chroí, an Irish organisation that carrys out important ecosystem restoration work, offer courses on regenerative cultures, and work alongside farmers and landowners to create resilient and regenerative food systems.

Food
Our current food systems have a huge impact on the environment, and every meal is an opportunity to make a positive impact on our planet and its inhabitants. That’s why our Trail Camps are 100% plant-based and always will be. Our entire team is united by a shared commitment to a plant-based diet, driven by our passion for reducing harm to our planet and its precious animal life. As much as possible, we shop locally, eat organic produce and are mindful about our plastic & water use.
By providing indulgent, nutritious plant-based foods at our Camps, we save an average of:
♻️225kg CO2e 💦217,800L water ⛰️622m2 land 🐷and up to 90 animals
per Camp!!

As part of our ongoing commitment to being a force for good, we continue to foster a strong partnership with Trees not Tees. This organisation works with event hosts to plant a tree in lieu of giving out event t-shirts.
The trees planted are native species in the UK and are certified by the Scottish National Heritage, ensuring that they benefit the local ecosystem, provide clean air and carbon sequestration, and restore soil health.
This partnership is our small way to make sure that we do not contribute to the ever-growing problem of fast fashion and overflowing landfills. At each of our Trail Camps, we plant a tree in each Camper’s name and they receive an e-certificate detailing the species and location of their tree.🌳
🍂 To date, we have planted 145 trees in our Campers’ honour! 🍃

Trails & Roots is an ongoing supporter of Trail Criú and has proudly sponsored their 2025 & 2026 Fauna Festival!
What is Trail CriÚ?
Trail Criú is an Irish organisation fostering connection and community through trail running. Trail Criú began in 2023, with a simple yet powerful vision: to use the magnificent Wicklow trails as a means to support migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees in finding community, connection, and belonging in their new home.
Trail Criú believes that trail running is for everyone, regardless of background, identity, or ability. They have built a diverse community of runners & walkers from places like Afghanistan, South Africa, Ireland, Colombia, Zimbabwe, Palestine, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and more, coming together to share experiences in nature.
Creating a space for everyone to be their true selves and experiencing the transformative power of nature are at the heart of what we do here at Trails & Roots 💚
We deeply admire Trail Criú’s mission & action, and are honoured to support them!

Some of our Sustainability Successes
👣 In 2024, after lots of work, we managed to reduce the carbon footprint of our Trail Camp Chamonix by a whopping 94% compared to the previous year! We are committed to continuing this improvement at our other Camps.
🌄 In 2025, we added sustainability-related workshops to some of our Trail Camps! These workshops provide fascinating information on the local flora and fauna, some of the challenges faced by the surrounding environment, and ways to reduce our impact as trail runners.
🗑️Both during our Camps and in our day-to-day lives, our team lives and runs by the Leave No Trace principles. These conservation ethics mean that wherever we go out in nature, we take all our trash with us, leave the environment as untouched as possible, and respect the local wildlife. We also make it a habit to pick up at least 3 pieces of trash we come across along the trails, leaving them better than we found them.
